Jose, a missionary from the Dominican Republic, was in the U.S. on a tourist visa when he began to experience irregular heart palpitations and chest pains. It was determined that the 49-year-old religious worker would need an electro-physiology study to help direct treatment of his arrhythmias as well as a pacemaker, which would be donated by Medtronic. The procedure was performed by Dr. Marco Mercader and Dr. Cynthia Tracy of George Washington University Medical Center.
