After Larry King suffered a heart attack and had successful quintuple bypass surgery, he realized how lucky he was to receive the medical care he did through his medical insurance. He knows that others aren’t as lucky. In 1988, he founded the Larry King Cardiac Foundation to provide funding for life-saving treatment for people who would otherwise not get the treatment and care they need.

In May 2009, Larry King released his telling autobiography, which details his humble roots, his celebrity life as host of CNN’s Larry King Live, and his battle with heart disease.

In 2005, Matthew lost his father to a heart attack. To help deal with his loss, he raised money in the hopes that he could help save someone else from a similar pain. He sold "Be smart save a heart" bracelets and raised $1,800 for the Larry King Cardiac Foundation. Matthew shared his story at our 2006 annual gala.
